Activity: The Publishing House of the "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University in Iași is a child of the revolution of December 1989. Shortly after January 1, 1990, I presented to the first freely elected Senate Bureau a project for an academic publishing house, intended to channel the scientific potential of Iași academics in a formula that enshrines, after a proven Western model – Presse Universitaire or University Press -, the institution's interest in promoting its own values ​​on a market of ideas dominated by the Capital by far. The agreed formula also included the acquisition of a printing house, because at that time only full autonomy from the old state printing house guaranteed the appearance of what we wanted to publish. From the first foreign exchange allocation that the University received from the Ministry, two computers and two printing presses were purchased, added to the rather modest endowment of the multiplication workshop where lithographs were still being produced, in conditions of precariousness that are hard to imagine today, for the courses for students. An editorial office was then established, editorial plans were drawn up and, finally, the first books were published.
